Discover Different Vocational Training Careers
As a student at the Vocational Gymnasium, you will have the opportunity to shadow a trainee—both at vocational school and in the workplace. This means you’ll get an early and authentic look into a specific apprenticeship. During vocational school classes, you’ll gain insight into different subjects and areas of specialization. In the company, you’ll observe firsthand what a typical workday looks like for an apprentice and which tasks and responsibilities the profession entails.

When registering, you can indicate two professional fields that interest you. Based on your selection, you’ll be matched with one of the following careers:

How does Work Shadowing work?
You choose a training profession you’d like to explore.
Fill out the registration form and have it confirmed by your class teacher.
You’ll receive feedback on the next steps and the procedure of your Work Shadowing from Mr. Jarden or your class teacher. During the Work Shadowing week, you will accompany your shadowing partner for two days at vocational school and three days at their training company.
After successfully completing the program, both you and your partner will receive a certificate of participation.
We encourage you to share your commitment and experiences with us afterward—e.g. during a class session.

For Trainees
As a trainee at the Vocational School St. Pauli, you have the chance to introduce a student from the Vocational Gymnasium to your profession and pass on the knowledge you’ve already gained.
You will be shadowed for a week—both at work and at school—and share your experiences.
