Vocational Grammar School

For students aiming to pursue academic studies or high-level vocational training—particularly in business-related professions—the St. Pauli Vocational Grammar School with a focus on economics offers the ideal preparation. Over the course of three years, students can earn the Allgemeine Hochschulreife, which entitles them to enroll in any degree program at any university or higher education institution in Germany. A unique feature in Hamburg: students can choose to take Business Administration and Economics classes, including the final Abitur exams, in English—an excellent foundation for an international career. Career and Study Orientation
Helping students make informed decisions about their future career or academic path is the central goal of our career and study orientation program.
We guide all our students as they move toward a well-founded decision about their professional future. To this end, we have implemented mandatory stages of information and counseling that are fully integrated into everyday school life. In addition, we offer special programs for particularly interested students and specific student groups.
Our guiding principle: Career and study orientation is firmly embedded in our school routines. It complements classroom instruction by systematically promoting key skills. Core competencies such as taking responsibility, teamwork, and independent work are not taught in isolated workshops but practiced directly in regular classes.
Company Visits and Career Aptitude Tests
By visiting and exploring different companies, students gain inspiration and valuable insights into potential career paths. Collaboration with regional businesses is a key component of this program. We also maintain strong connections with the training companies affiliated with BS 11.
In year 11, all students take a career and study orientation test. The goal is to provide concrete guidance for future career and academic choices based on each student’s individual interests, strengths, and weaknesses.
Training and Education Fairs
Our school provides comprehensive information about various training and education fairs. We organize mandatory visits to the “Einstieg” and “Vocatium” fairs. The latter is particularly valuable as students are able to schedule individual appointments with representatives in line with their career interests before the fair begins.
External Assessment Center Training
In cooperation with external partners, we offer interested students the opportunity to participate in assessment center training. This program is scheduled shortly before students begin preparing their first applications, giving them valuable insights into recruitment processes and employer expectations.
University of Hamburg Information Day
All students are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity and may be excused from regular classes for the day. Prior to the event, the school hosts an information session and guided campus tour at the University of Hamburg to help students become familiar with academic life and options.
Additional Services
Our career and study orientation program also provides information on scholarships, funding options for higher education, and job-shadowing opportunities at vocational schools. These and many other resources are available to help students plan their academic and professional futures.
