Insurance and Financial Services Professionals
We serve as the vocational school and dual partner in the training of insurance and financial services clerks.
The training duration is typically 3 years and takes place at the locations of the company and vocational school.
Insurance and financial services clerks work at insurance companies and financial services firms, or they operate as independent agents, brokers, or consultants. They can also be employed in industrial and commercial enterprises, as well as in other service companies.
Registration
The training companies must register their trainees separately with the vocational school.
An automatic registration by the Chamber of Commerce after the registration of the training relationship does not take place! For the school’s planning, it is important that the registration occurs promptly after the conclusion of the contract.
Please use the school-specific form Registration Form and do not forget the following information:
Instruction format: Block or part-time instruction
Learning materials: Loan or purchase.
Enrollment
Trainees in the profession of “Insurance and Financial Services Clerks” attend our school for 2½ to 3 years during their training period. We offer block and part-time instruction.
Block Instruction:
You will learn when your first vocational school block begins from your training company or on this homepage (Block Plan for Individual Insurance ).
Part-Time Instruction:
Classes for a new intake generally begin after the summer holidays of the year. Training companies will be informed separately about the start date.
How do I get to the vocational school?
Please use public transportation, as there are very few public or free parking spaces available in the vicinity of the school. Parking in the designated spaces for teachers is not allowed.
How to reach the school.
What can I expect on the first day at vocational school?
On the first day of vocational school, there will be no regular classes. The class community will get to know each other, the school, and the school rules necessary for a successful completion of the training.
Welcome in the auditorium
The school administration will first welcome you in the auditorium. Afterward, you will go to your classrooms, where your class teacher will inform you about the general procedures, rules, and of course, the timetable. You will complete formalities such as filling out student ID cards, and you will get to know the new, spacious school building during a school tour.
Which class am I assigned to?
At the entrance of the school building, you will find the class lists and information on where the respective classrooms are located on an electronic display board (or on notice boards).
Training Contents
Your training contents are based on the framework curriculum for the profession of “Insurance and Financial Services Clerk” dated December 17, 2021, which you can also find as available for download on our homepage.
The learning fields mentioned in the framework curriculum are graded individually on the report card. The subjects of Economics and Society (WuG), Language and Communication (SuK), and English complete the requirements for Insurance and Financial Services Clerks.
Vocational School Hours
Each trainee attends our school for four vocational school blocks during a 2.5-year training period and for five blocks during a three-year training period. In the part-time format, trainees attend school continuously for 2.5 to 3 years on two designated days for eight or four class hours.
The class days for the part-time classes are always determined just before the summer holidays and communicated to the training companies as early as possible.
Class and Break Times
You can find the class and break times here.

Examinations
Federal Standardized Written Final Examination (Extended Format)
Part 1
After approximately half of your training period, the first part of the final examination in the area of “General Insurance Industry” will take place. (Duration: 120 minutes).
The specific content to be examined can be found in the training regulations for “Insurance and Financial Services Clerks” dated March 2, 2022.
Part 2
The second part of the final examination takes place at the end of the training period in the examination areas of “Customer Needs Analysis, Solution Development, and Claims Handling” (Duration: 150 minutes).
The content to be examined can also be found in the aforementioned training regulations. Additionally, a 60-minute examination in programmed form will be conducted in “General Economics and Social Studies.”

Examination Dates
Please refer to the homepage of the Chamber of Commerce (Handelskammer) for the dates of the written examinations.
For each examination, you will receive a personal invitation from the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, indicating the date, time, and location of the examination. Generally, the examinations are conducted in rooms at the vocational school.
Oral Final Examinations
The examination consists of two parts, which must be completed consecutively on the same day:
Part 1:
In a 15-minute simulated customer consultation, you are required to demonstrate your consulting skills in an insurance sector of your choice.
Part 2:
During your training and up until the date of the written final examination, you must write a report on a selected area (see above in the structural model: “Elective Area”), in which you describe a specific, non-routine task you accomplished during your practical training period.
You will then be questioned by the examination committee in a 20-minute examination conversation regarding this report. The assessment of this examination section will be based solely on the conversation. The written report itself will not be included in the evaluation.
Examination Dates
You will be informed in a timely manner by the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce about the exact examination date set by the examination committee responsible for you. Only the examination period is fixed:
- after the written autumn examinations (November) in January of the following year,
- after the written spring examinations (April/May) in June/July of a given year.
Early Admission to the Final Examination
Do you want to take the final examination early?
This is possible under certain conditions, as the following overview shows.
