Internship Abroad in Mallorca

Thanks to the funding provided through Erasmus+, I had the opportunity in May 2026 to spend three and a half weeks in Mallorca while simultaneously gaining valuable professional experience at a Spanish insurance brokerage specialising in advising expatriates from the DACH region, while also serving the broader Spanish market.

My accommodation, as well as the company’s headquarters, was located approximately 20 minutes west of Palma in the small town of Santa Ponsa. Although the northern side of the bay is heavily influenced by tourism, the area also offers quieter and more authentic locations, such as Puerto de Santa Ponsa and the local archaeological park.

The brokerage also operates another office in Maioris, which I was able to reach thanks to a company car that was placed at my disposal. Fortunately, I was given considerable flexibility regarding the structure and content of my internship, which allowed me to decide spontaneously in which office I wanted to work on a given day.

Back in Hamburg, I am currently completing my vocational training within the MARTENS & PRAHL Group, one of the last owner-managed insurance broker groups in Germany, specialising primarily in commercial and industrial insurance business and operating more than 90 locations nationwide.

The contrast to my training company in Germany became particularly evident through the simpler product portfolio and the more relaxed working atmosphere, which was undoubtedly influenced by both the pleasant weather and the characteristic “Mallorca flair.” In addition, the advisory services provided by the brokerage extended far beyond the mere sale of insurance products. The company I completed my internship with also maintains a network of tax advisors and various service providers who support expatriates with all relevant matters related to relocating abroad.

I greatly enjoyed supporting my Spanish colleagues in customer consultations and gaining extensive insight into the daily work routines of both the employees and the management team.

During my free time, I took the opportunity to explore the island beyond the typical tourist hotspots and followed several insider recommendations provided by the staff. In this regard, I particularly remember the impressive cliffs and the nearby beach clubs around Maioris.
