The Vocational School for Banking, Insurance and Law with Vocational Gymnasium (BS11)

Located in the heart of Hamburg, northern Germany’s economic powerhouse, the Berufliche Schule für Banken, Versicherungen und Recht mit Beruflichem Gymnasium—commonly known as Berufliche Schule St. Pauli, or simply BS11—is one of the city’s premier institutions for vocational education.

Following the merger of three major educational centers in 2015, BS11 has grown to become the largest vocational school in the Hanseatic city of Hamburg, currently serving around 2,300 students with a faculty of 120 full-time staff.

We specialize in the training of future bank clerks, insurance and finance professionals, and legal administrative staff. These core programs are complemented by our Vocational Gymnasium with a focus on Business and Economics, as well as various pre-vocational training programs.

The Three Educational Branches of BS11

  • Vocational Grammar School Specializing in Economics and Business Studies, offering students a university entrance qualification (Abitur) with a practical orientation.
  • Vocational College Providing dual training in the following seven professions: Bank Clerk, Insurance and Finance Clerk, Social Insurance Clerk, Specialist for Labour Market Services, Legal Assistant (Rechtsanwaltsfachangestellte), Notary’s Assistant, Judicial Clerk (Justizfachangestellte),
  • Pre-Vocational and Preparatory Programs These are divided into three branches: AvDual: Dual pre-vocational training combining school-based and company-based learning, AvMDual: A pathway for migrants to obtain recognized school qualifications, IVK Classes: International preparatory classes that equip well-educated young refugees and migrants with the language skills necessary for attending upper secondary school in Germany.
