AvM Dual – Vocational Preparation for Migrants

WHat is AvM Dual?

In the AvM Dual (Vocational Preparation for Migrants) classes, young people aged 16 to 18 from various countries receive instruction. The training period is two years. After an initial phase lasting several months, the students attend school three days a week and work in a company for the remaining two days.

Students

Since most students attending this type of school have limited knowledge of the German language, regardless of their residency status, the initial focus of school hours is primarily on language acquisition and the development of social and vocational skills. The students bring with them varied levels of prior achievement and diverse life experiences. Therefore, instruction is differentiated and individually tailored to meet the needs of these highly diverse groups.

Instruction at the School

The instruction is divided into two areas. The first is the vocational area, which supports and accompanies workplace learning and actions, facilitating the transition into a career or apprenticeship. The second area is cross-disciplinary, focusing on acquiring German language skills as well as knowledge in Mathematics, English, Physical Education, and Economics and Society.

Possible Qualifications

After two years of schooling, students have the opportunity to earn a basic or intermediate general education diploma. The goal of the AvM program is to facilitate students’ transition into the training and employment market.

Admission Requirements

Admission to AvM Dual requires a consultation at the Information Center of the Hamburg Institute for Vocational Education. Here, the decision is made regarding the students’ placement at our school.
