Successful Participation in the Hamburg Volksbank eG Stock Market Simulation
For a period of three months, students at Berufliche Schule St. Pauli had the opportunity to demonstrate their skills in the financial markets. In cooperation with Hamburger Volksbank eG, a stock market simulation competition was organised, in which students from the banking classes as well as the vocational upper secondary school participated.
The event commenced at the end of January with an introductory session. During this session, Mr Höft from Hamburger Volksbank eG presented the stock market simulation and provided participants with an initial insight into the functioning of financial markets. Subsequently, the students were given a fictitious starting capital of €50,000. The objective of the competition was to achieve the highest possible return within three months through strategic investment decisions.
The competition officially began at the beginning of February and attracted considerable interest. More than 600 students from across Germany took part in the event.
Shortly before the end of the competition, a closing event was held. As part of this event, Mr Höft delivered an interactive presentation on ESG criteria (Environmental, Social and Governance) and explained their growing importance in sustainable investment decisions. In addition, participants were given an insight into the current rankings of the competition. The interim results created additional excitement and motivated many students to make every effort in the final days of the competition in order to improve their positions.
The success achieved by Berufliche Schule St. Pauli was therefore all the more remarkable. Two participants from the school succeeded in reaching the top ten of the nationwide ranking among all participating schools. One student from the vocational upper secondary school achieved an outstanding third place. Another participant from one of the banking classes secured seventh place, thereby rounding off the school’s excellent overall performance.
In recognition of their achievements, the successful participants were awarded various prizes by Hamburger Volksbank eG. Beyond the competitive aspect, all participants gained valuable practical experience in dealing with financial markets and were able to deepen their understanding of investment strategies, sustainable finance, and stock trading.
Both Berufliche Schule St. Pauli and Hamburger Volksbank eG therefore draw a highly positive conclusion from the project. The stock market simulation provided students with the opportunity to connect theoretical knowledge acquired in the classroom with practical experience and to develop a deeper understanding of economic relationships as well as the opportunities and risks associated with capital investments.
Finally, we would like to thank all participating students as well as Hamburger Volksbank eG for the successful cooperation.
