Company Excursions in the Vocational Grammar School

As part of their career orientation, students from the vocational upper secondary school (Berufliches Gymnasium) gathered information about training and study opportunities from various companies.

On June 17, a group of our 12th-grade students visited the Hamburg-based company REYHER, a wholesaler for fasteners and fixing technology with customers around the world. During the tour, we gained insights into different areas of the company: the automated high-bay warehouse stretching approximately 16 kilometers, the chaotic storage system based on ABC classification, the use of Kanban systems, quality control processes, and the packing stations where goods are prepared for shipping. To conclude the visit, REYHER provided information about various apprenticeship and dual study programs. The visit offered a hands-on look into modern logistics processes and career prospects in this field.(Marta BG 26/3)

A small group from our school also visited the company Jungheinrich to gain insights into professional life. We were warmly welcomed on site and given an interesting overview of what the company does and what everyday work looks like there. We were also offered croissants and sweets. A highlight of the visit was the conversation with four apprentices and dual study students, who introduced us to their respective training and study programs. They spoke openly about their experiences, the content of their training, and their career prospects afterward. This allowed us to learn firsthand about the opportunities available after graduating from school. At the end, we were given a tour of the building, which provided us with a better sense of the working environment. The visit was informative and helped us gain a clearer understanding of different career paths.

As part of our career orientation program, we visited Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) in the historic Speicherstadt district. After traveling together by train, we were warmly welcomed by two employees at the company’s modern office location and guided to a conference room. There, we received fascinating insights into HHLA’s operations and organizational structure. In addition to impressive facts and figures about the company, we were introduced to various apprenticeship options and dual study programs. It was particularly interesting to learn how diverse the career paths are within an international logistics company and the important roles that subsidiary companies play within the HHLA Group. To conclude the visit, we had the opportunity to tour the offices and gain a first-hand impression of day-to-day work at HHLA. The visit provided a great opportunity to gain practical insights into the professional world and to explore potential future career paths. A big thank you to HHLA for the warm welcome and the informative session!
