Mercedes-Benz Plant Tour
A glimpse behind the scenes of modern automobile production: In February, our Year 12 business administration courses visited the Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen on three separate dates. After Beijing, it is the company’s second-largest facility worldwide.
Following an informative introductory film, we were taken by shuttle bus straight into the production area. On site, our students had the opportunity to explore the press shop and observe firsthand how a vehicle is assembled step by step along the production line—with an impressive level of automation of up to 90 percent. It was particularly exciting to see well-known models such as the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupé, the Mercedes-Benz SL, and various Mercedes-AMG variants up close.
The visit aligned perfectly with our current unit on “Production.” Concepts such as just-in-time manufacturing, as well as the high degree of complexity and capital intensity inherent in industrial production, suddenly became tangible and comprehensible. Theory and practice converged in a direct and compelling way—creating genuine added value for everyone involved.
Beyond the academic insights, the excursion also fostered a strong sense of community. Experiences like this demonstrate how dynamic classroom learning can be—and how fascinating economics becomes when encountered in real-world contexts.
